A team of three of SpaceCoffee’s Aviation devision took part in the first-edition of the AviaTech hackathon. The event took place in Subcarpathian vivodeship, where many aviation-related companies localize their Polish quaters.
The team faced the challenge to create, complete and market a project from the “open” category, chosen among other available. Since interests of SC Club’s members span across all different areas of science, arts and technology, their idea was to create an Air Traffic Controller Simulator, something not done before on the game or aviation training markets. It could be considered a Microsoft Flight Simulator alternative for AT controllers. The game will follow a script of events for the player, who could even be an AT controller in-training, and navigate an aircraft safely to the airport, or help fix in-flight issues, considering real-life communication methods and ground station systems and interfaces.
The team finished the hackathon with comprehensive plans for game controls and further developments, like VR-compatibility, along an alpha verision of the game itself. More about the Simulator can be found under a dedicated page.
The 24 hours of work proved exhausting but satisfying and the team, despite no podium achievements, returned home eager for next AviaTech editions, as well as looking forward to other hackathons.
